The word ‘vigilance’ comes from the Latin word for ‘alertness’ or ‘wakefulness.’

If we are awake, it means that we are not sleeping.

But what should not sleep within us? Our consciousness.

Our body requires sleep, and we should not deprive it of this need. The absence of sleep is one thing, but keeping our consciousness awake is another.

We can be awake with a sleepyconsciousness; likewise, we can be asleep with an awakened consciousness. This is because consciousness is like a lamp, and there are some people who never let it go out.
