The importance of willpower

Everyday life requires a minimum of willpower: getting up in the morning, going to work, looking after the family, etc. There’s no great merit in that, everyone does it.

If we have not exercised our will and taken the trouble to go further, we will continue to live as we have always done, carelessly, mechanically.

We will understand where the good is, we will wish for the good, we will desire the good, but if we do not exercise our will, we will not achieve the good we approve of. The only way to understand a truth is to put it into practice and live it.

“When we live in ideal material conditions, the will won’t have much of a chance to manifest itself.

It is in difficult conditions, in deprivation, that we are obliged to work.

All the beings who have manifested themselves as exceptional characters have lived in difficult conditions, hardship, even persecution.

I am not saying this so that you will voluntarily seek out misery, illness or enmity.

I only want to make you understand that the only conditions to look for are those that allow us to exercise our will, in order to progress towards the divine world.

volonté

Like sportsmen and women, people who have struggled, who are always striving to surpass themselves, who have triumphed over their trials, arouse respect and admiration.

Why do they do this? Because they have developed qualities such as courage, a taste for effort and endurance.

In the inner realm, we also have feats to perform, victories to win: being patient in the face of difficulties, overcoming sadness, discouragement and disappointment, mastering our thoughts and feelings.

We could apply our willpower to this exciting work.

Using our will to put it at the service of a high ideal is the best inner direction we can take to develop our qualities and correct our faults.

However, this spiritual journey is not without its obstacles: we will come up against temptations and opposing wills that will try to seduce us away from our commitment.

To do God’s will is not to obey and serve an external authority, but to listen to our soul and spirit, to be inspired by our higher nature to achieve this ideal of divine perfection. Our whole being will then be committed, reserved, busy and protected.
